MWUN LOSES ONE OF ITS OWN, COM. JOHNBULL OKHIRIA
Comrade Johnbull Okhiria of the Maritme Workers' Union of Nigeria recently passed on after a brief illness. He died while taking treatment at a Lagos hospital; his remains had since been deposited in the mortuary.
It would be recalled that JB as he's fondly called by his surbodinates, superiors and admirers started his life career in the Union, passing through all the ranks - as he was a Unit chairman, District Organising Secretary, and District chairman from where he was elected as the Vice President of the Dockworkers Branch of the Union, where he served for two tenures of four years each under Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju as President.
He also rose to the cadre of a Special Adviser to the Union's President -General, at the Union's headquarters; the last of his appointments before his demise.
Comrade JB with his gigantic frame was one of the Union's struggle fighters, he was a never-give-up comrade, who put in everything to necessary towards achieving the desired results and by bringing sanity to the Union; which of course yielded the very much talked about peace and tranquility the Union currently enjoys.
He was a stunch Dockworker and rugged with his duty calls to the core. He was a thorough bred Unionist, whose legacy will remain indelible in the sands of time, given his immense and invaluable contributions to the betterment of the Maritme Workers' Union of Nigeria. Comrade Johnbull will forever be remembered as an icon of the struggle towards keeping the Union a united force.
Comrade Okhiria hails from Auchi town in Etsako West LGA of Edo State. He had his early elementary and secondary school education all in Edo State before proceeding to Lagos in pursuit of his trade unionism career.
The Maritme Workers' Union under the aegis of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi says an era has gone when the news of JB's demise was broken. The PG rightly said it is only God who can determine one's last day on planet earth; hence, we as humans must endeavor to do our best as much as we can, believing that the Almighty God is the ultimate judge as we don't own our lives.
Comrade Bunu also said of JB as one Unionist, who knows his onions and was always close to him, describing the late Comrade as respectful, obedient, calculative, and disciplined; noting that what endeared JB mostly to him was his style of humor and his soft spokeness. A very jolly good fellow devoid of tribalism, who was a rare gem of his type.
All the executives and members of the Union also felt JB's death and wished he had survived the illness, but God's wish, however prevailed.
JB was married and blessed with children. We as a Union prays that his gentle soul rests in perfect peace, believing that the Almighty God will continue to bless the family he left behind.
