Starting from the year 2020, week in, week out, Funke has been using video contents, probably over 600, and a podcast to malign Olukoya and MFM and present herself as a victim of religious persecution. In posts shared across her platforms, she has described experiences of fear, intimidation, and pressure that she says she and her family faced in Nigeria while attending MFM. A significant portion of her public commentary has focused on her former church and its General Overseer, Dr. D.K. Olukoya, making outrageous claims and fabricated allegations against the man and his church. It is significant to note that every single one of her lies and allegations have been repeatedly thrown out by the courts.
During that period, Ashekun’s accounts attracted both attention and scrutiny. Supporters have framed her story within broader conversations about religious freedom and the treatment of members who leave or criticize large ministries. But discerning critics and the neutral public have raised questions about most of her contents and allegations, saying they have not seen verifiable evidence such as video evidence, police reports from Funke and other alleged victims, court filings, medical records, or other official documents to support claims of physical threats or direct persecution. This hs left the neutrals wondering if there is indeed any truth in her malicious claims.
The matter drew renewed public attention recently after an audio recording linked to Ashekun began circulating widely on social media platforms. In the clip, voices identified as Wale Akpeji and another individual named Sola are heard discussing plans to recruit former church members who would be willing to lie and fabricate allegations against Dr. Olukoya. Reports and commentary accompanying the audio show that the conversation included talk of financial incentives and other forms of support for former members of MFM willing to speak publicly against Olukoya and the church leadership.
The resurfacing of the audio also brought forward responses from some MFM members who referenced benefits that Ashekun and her family reportedly received during their time in the church. It bis no longer news that Dr. Olukoya offered Funke and her family various forms of financial support which include assistance with wedding costs, provision of accommodation for several years, vehicles for herself and her husband, educational scholarships for her children, and salary support. These specific claims made by the leadership of MFM have never been denied by Funke Ashekun herself.
REAL REASON FUNKE ASHEKUN IS BATTLING TO DEFAME DR. OLUKOYA AND MFM
Many will find it shocking to know that the sole reason Funke has been maligning and defaming Dr. Olukoya and MFM all these years is basically so that she can secure Asylum in the United States having presented herself as one fleeing from danger because of religious persecution . But her claims have been repeatedly scrutinised by critics who have questioned the credibility of her story and insist she hasn’t been able to provide any credible evidence to support the various dramatic claims she has made for years. And because her case could not hold water in the law court, the US Appeal Court ordered her to Pay $300,000 law suit filed against her for continuous defamation and online propaganda against Olukoya and MFM. Sadly for her, her illogical and unfounded allegations were thrown out by the courts, making her attempt to build an Asylum narrative fall apart like a pack of badly arranged cards. Now, not only will she and her family lose their application for Asylum, she is indebted to Olukoya and MFM to the staggering tune of $300,000.
As one would expect, it is now starting to dawn on so many who have been following her vicious attacks on Dr. Olukoya on her podcast for years that one of the many reasons she has remained relentless in her efforts and continuous claims of persecution is because of the asylum she has been seeking from the US Government.
And shamelessly, Funke Ashekun is not ready to put a stop to the madness she unleashed upon herself. Till this very moment, with the help of her accomplices like Wale Akpeji, she continues to recruit and pay different EX Members of MFM church to tell lies against Dr. Olukoya as obtained in the well circulated audio recording which recently leaked online and comprehensively revealed her modus operandi while trying to recruit disgruntled and criminal elements who are willing to bear false witness against Dr. Olukoya and MFM.
