Expectedly, the story gained traction after bloggers, including Aunty Adunni Blog, claimed the audio points to a coordinated network working against the church, of course initiated by the notorious Funke Ashekun. While some parties initially dismissed the claims, the leaked recording has fueled intense debate among members and observers.
In the recording, voices identified as Wale Akpeji and another individual named Sola can be heard discussing recruitment plans and the conditions expected from prospective participants in the battle against MFM. Reports surrounding the audio also allege talks of financial incentives and offers of overseas travel for those willing to speak out against church leadership and in particular, Dr. Olukoya.
To set the records straight, Wale Akpeji was not exactly a
member of MFM. According to a source close to the leadership of the ministry, “Dr.
Olukoya
merely saw in him a young man who seemed ambitious and he wanted to help. He
wanted to make his life better. But when he looked closely, he found out that
Wale lacked sound education. However, he was intelligent in a crafty way and
loved football.”
“The man of God decided to send him abroad to study in
Canada,” the source revealed further. “A
sum of $6,000 was given to him. In the process of counting, the man even mistakenly
gave him $6,100. You would think a young man given such an opportunity would
grab it with both hands. What did Wale do? He squandered the money on women. They
bought him a car to do Uber. He sold the car. He wanted a luxurious lifestyle
but he did not want to work. This is the same Wale Akpeji now recruiting people
for Funke Ashekun to spread malicious lies against Dr. Olukoya and MFM! I dare
him to come out and deny that Olukoya never gave him money to go study in
Canada,” the source concluded.
In the leaked audio, Wale could be heard speaking to the individual named Sola, trying desperately to convince him to join their group in the fight to destroy Olukoya and MFM. He spoke passionately about his benefactor, Funke Ashekun, and how she will transform his life only if he is willing to come out publicly to make malicious allegations against Olukoya and bear false witness against him in court.
Unsure about what he was getting himself into, a visibly scared Sola could be heard asking if he would not get into trouble with the law should he go ahead to bear false witness against Olukoya and MFM in court. Wale assures him Funke would guarantee he is protected and even fly him out of the country to evade arrest should it come to that.
Sola even reminded him that it was Wale Akpeji himself that took him to Dr. Olukoya when he needed help and the man of God came to his rescue and gave him all the help he needed and now, he was the same person now asking him to say Dr. Olukoya is no longer a good man but a fake man of God.
