Pastor Chris Okafor runs one of the fastest growing ministries in Nigeria called Grace Nation International aka Liberation City. He is a fire brand man of God who believes in nothing but the efficacy of prayers. His ministry has continued to confound many who just cannot seem to understand how the church has gone on to grow in leaps and bounds in the last few years, making it one of the biggest in the country. It has recently completed a new massive auditorium that conveniently sits over 30,000 members of the church. The auditorium is eye popping, an edifice befitting of a fast growing ministry such as the very popular Liberation City.
He is regarded as one of the most revered men of God in the country. This is not just because he is considered one of the powerful men of God in the land but also because he is a lane minder. He is not a noise maker. He keeps to himself and maintains a very simple lifestyle. He does not dabble into issues that do not have any immediate bearing to his personality or ministry. A few days ago, City People reached him to find out what he thinks about the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration. We also wanted to find out why he seldom gets involved in political issues. And in between the conversation, he said in parts:
“Let me tell you something, and I want to be very honest here, I am not a big fan of the president. I have nothing against him, he has done me no wrong, I respect him as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but I am not a big political fan of his. As a pastor and man of God, there is a limit to which I can dabble into politics. I had my reservations about him contesting for the presidency last year and now that he is the president, I still have my reservations. But I would’ve preferred that he did not contest at all. He has made such a big reputation for himself and has achieved a lot politically, it would’ve been nice if he had just left it that way, take a back seat and let the younger ones take over,” the very dashing looking man of God stated.
What about his impressions of the President, what does he think of him? He answered: “I must admit I have also come to respect the man in a way. I don’t know too many men his age who can withstand all that he endured before, during and after election. He was insulted. He was abused. He was called all sorts of names. But he just kept his eyes on his target. He didn’t let it get to him. He stayed calm and in the end, the rest is history. As for me, I didn’t believe in him that much, and I still don't, but you have to give it to him, he’s a strong man.”
When asked if he thinks Tinubu’s government will do well, the very intelligent and quiet man of God responded:
“Well, it’s going to be a tough one for him, as you can see. We can all see what’s going on the country at the moment. Things are not looking good at all. As pastors, we feel it more because of the volume of financial needs and requests from members that we have to deal with everyday. Like I said, I am just a Pastor and I try very hard not to get involved in some things I consider not extremely significant to the church in the eyes of God. Our God works in mysterious ways. He can still use the man to turn the country around for good, even if a large number of Nigerians don’t like him."
“If you recall, months before the election, I released a prophecy that a lot of people probably didn’t pay attention to last year. This prophecy was released many months before the presidential elections were held. I said it loud and clear then, that the man most people preferred to win the election will not win it. I was very clear on that. And I also said it is the most despised, the most hated man that will win the election and become the next president of this country. Go and check online, you will find my prophecy there. That’s why I said our God is a mysterious God, he has his own way of doing things. But that doesn’t mean things will be easy for the country.”
He added: “I said it back then, you can go online and verify this, I made it clear that things will be very tough for the people, for Nigerians, and that is what is happening now. But God will not abandon his people. God loves this country and he will surely bring light upon our nation and Nigerians will smile again, all we need to do is work hard, stay focused and let God take control of the situation,” he concluded.
