There are not too many religious leaders in the
country who are more passionate about Nigeria than Reverend Emmanuel Adetunji
Adeonigbagbe, the founder and leader of the Celica Church of Christ Worldwide.
And though he is a very private man who prefers to keep his engagements within
the religious space, his passion for Nigeria and desire to see a better
governed nation have repeatedly
brought him to public glare.
Prophet Adeonigbagbe does not joke with anything that
will bring about a new and transformed Nigeria. He prays ceaselessly for the
emergence of the Nigeria of his dreams. And he didn’t start today. Long ago
from as far back as the first rule of former President Obasanjo as a military
ruler, to this very day, he has been convening intense prayer sessions for
Nigeria involving some of the strongest spiritual prophets in the land. Despite
the perennial problem of bad leadership that has bedeviled Nigeria, Prophet
Adeonigbagbe has refused to give up on the nation. He believes very strongly that
the Lord will come through for his beloved country soon.
Presently, the recent kidnap of about 45 Oyo state
pupils and their teachers has been preying on his mind, giving him sleepless
nights, praying the kids would be released in no time and allowed to return
safely to their parents. He is also worried about government’s lack of will
power to confront terrorists and bandits and the unwillingness of spiritual leaders
to play their roles as watch men and conscience of the society. Every year, he releases compelling
prophecies that have become the bench mark for the myriad of other prophecies
that come flooding in at the start of every year.
Below is a spiritual message Reverend Adeonigbagbe
just released, warning the religious leaders about the dire consequences of
abandoning their original roles in pursuit of their own personal gains and
aspirations and reminding Nigerians why they must rise up and collectively stop

Nigeria: To Be or Not To Be — The Watchmen Must Return

To My Beloved Countrymen,
Praise be to God Almighty, who in His infinite mercy continues to speak to His people. At this critical moment in our national life, the Lord has laid a profound burden upon my heart concerning Nigeria—a nation standing at a decisive crossroads.
Nigeria at the Crossroads
Nigeria today resembles a dried-up river where no fishing can take place, a ship drifting aimlessly upon troubled waters, and an aircraft grounded without the ability to rise. Across our land, we witness escalating insecurity, deepening economic hardship, entrenched corruption, and an alarming erosion of moral values.
Yet beyond the failures of governance lies an even deeper tragedy—the failure of the watchmen. Many spiritual and religious leaders have, in various ways, abandoned their sacred responsibility to guide, correct, and serve as the moral compass of the nation.
The Failure of the Watchmen: From Prophets to Errand Men
Many who were called to stand as watchmen upon the walls have instead become companions of power. Rather than serving as the conscience of society, they have aligned themselves with those who oppress the people.
The Scriptures remind us in Numbers 18:20 that those called by God were set apart wholly for His service, possessing no earthly inheritance. They were ordained to be moral beacons—like Samuel before Saul, Nathan before David, and Elisha before Israel.
How can a prophet proclaim righteousness while entangled in the very darkness he has been called to confront? The Lord declares through Jeremiah 23:11:
«“Both prophet and priest are godless; even in my temple I find their wickedness.”»
This is why evil flourishes. The watchmen have abandoned their posts and, in some cases, joined the very forces they were commissioned to resist.
The Polluted Land Cries Out for Justice
The land of Nigeria groans beneath the weight of innocent blood. From massacred farmers in the North-Central region, to abducted schoolchildren and educators in Oyo State and across the nation, and to victims of violently suppressed peaceful protests, the land continues to cry out for justice.
The Lord declares that the land has been defiled and stained by continual bloodshed.
Yet His command remains unchanged:
Amos 5:14 urges us to “seek good and not evil, that you may live.”
Ezekiel 2:7 instructs us: “You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen.”
The responsibility of God's servants is not determined by the response of the people, but by obedience to the divine commission.
A Word to Political Leaders: Lead as Servant-Kings
To those entrusted with the affairs of governance, I say: govern not as overlords, but as servants of the people.
Let national resources be employed for the common good rather than private ambition.
Let your policies bring relief rather than hardship.
Let your words promote unity rather than division.
The Lord warns of impending judgement upon leaders who permit injustice, oppression, and instability to persist. As recorded in Ezekiel 34:2–10, shepherds must not feed themselves while neglecting the flock entrusted to their care.
This is the kind of leadership Nigeria desperately needs and earnestly longs for.
A Word to Religious Leaders
To pastors, imams, priests, prophets, and all spiritual leaders: return to the sacred altar.
You are a people set apart. Therefore, live accordingly with reverence, integrity, holiness, and the fear of the Lord.
The pulpit must never be used to justify oppression, excuse corruption, or silence truth. Silence is no longer an option.
Religious leaders must boldly defend the dignity of every human being and uphold the common good above personal gain, political interests, or institutional advantage.
The visible cracks within our nation reveal a faulty foundation. Genuine repentance and national renewal must begin with the Church and with all faith communities across the land.
The Way Forward
Nigeria's restoration will begin when spiritual leaders return to their divine assignment:
- When watchmen return to their posts;
- When truth replaces compromise;
- When leaders are guided rather than flattered;
- When God's message is proclaimed without fear or favour;
- When righteousness is elevated above personal interest.
I therefore reiterate the divine mandate that I have proclaimed since 1992: the establishment of a Spiritual Council comprising genuine, fearless, and God-fearing servants from both the Christian and Islamic faiths at all levels of governance.
Such a council should prayerfully review major national policies and seek divine wisdom and direction before implementation, thereby providing moral guidance for the nation and helping to preserve justice, peace, and righteousness.
Final Charge
If religious leaders remain silent in the face of injustice, oppression, and national decline, the burden of innocent blood—the blood of those who are killed, neglected, and denied justice—will rest upon them.
The path to both personal and national redemption requires courage. We must speak. We must pray. We must act.
Let every leader in Nigeria draw nearer to God.
Let every watchman return to his post.
Let every citizen embrace righteousness and truth.
Nigeria can rise again by the special grace of God, through repentance, righteous leadership, and the restoration of true watchmen.
May God have mercy upon Nigeria and guide her into her glorious destiny.
