Few days ago, just as he has done in previous years, Reverend Adeonigbagbe reached out to Nigerians during the Easter Season while delivering his annual Easter message. He spoke to Christians, non Christians, politicians, religious leaders, everyone! And his message was not only profound, it was poignant. My Beloved Countrymen,
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in His infinite mercy has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Easter is the glorious confirmation that death does not have the final word, love, sacrifice, and obedience to God does. It is the season when light overcame darkness, and the grave became the gateway to eternal triumph.
This sacred season calls every one of us, ordinary citizens and leaders alike, to move closer to God. Let Christ’s example shape our daily living: sacrifice that puts others first, humility that extinguishes pride, zeal for God’s work even when no one is watching, and swift obedience to His voice. Loving our neighbour as ourselves, across tribe, income, and religious belief is not a suggestion but the very evidence of faith in action.
A Special Word to Our Political Leaders
To those entrusted with the governance of this great nation, I say: Easter places before you a mirror. Look into the life of Jesus Christ, the Servant King who washed the feet of His disciples, who had no earthly throne yet ruled the hearts of millions, who gave His life not for personal gain but for the redemption of many. That is the leadership Nigeria longs for.
Lead not as overlords but as shepherds. Let the resources of this nation serve the people, not private ambitions. Let your policies heal, not wound. Let your words unite, not divide. In every decision, ask: “What would the selfless Christ do?” Shun corruption, resist the lure of power for power’s sake, and remember that you will one day give an account to the Most High God. Work tirelessly for Nigerians, for the child who dreams of education, the mother who struggles for a meal, the youth who seeks dignity in honest labour, and the farmer who prays for peace. Only then can Nigeria reach the heights that God has destined for her.
A Special Word to Religious Leaders
To my fellow stewards of God’s flock: Easter rebukes religion without compassion. We are keepers of truth, not merchants of fear; shepherds, not gatekeepers. Let our pulpits exalt Christ rather than ourselves, and our conduct reflect sacrifice, humility, and obedience before we demand it of others. Defend the poor, correct with gentleness, and bridge divides instead of deepening them. Nigeria watches the Church,if we walk in integrity, love, and selflessness, many will trust the God we proclaim.
Prayer and Hope for the Nation
Nigeria’s needs are great, but our God is greater. Only He can mend what politics and wealth cannot heal. I call on all Nigerians to pray fervently for our leaders, political and religious, that wisdom, integrity, and the fear of God will guide them. Pray for divine intervention in our nation’s affairs: peace in troubled regions, justice for the oppressed, jobs for the teeming young population, and food on every family’s table. Place your ultimate trust not in systems that fail, but in the God who raises the dead and turns nations around.
A Final Exhortation
May this Easter season birth fresh courage in us. Let us walk forward not as people overwhelmed by challenges, but as people of living hope, showing mercy because we have received mercy, forgiving because we have been forgiven, and serving because Christ first served us.
Christ is risen! Let Nigeria arise and reflect that life of sacrifice, selflessness, and resurrection power.
