Nigeria is presently going
through perhaps its most economically challenging period in the nation’s history.
All though, there appears to be signs that inflation might get better soon and
the people will heave a sigh of relief, still, it has remained grueling for the
average family to survive. The government says things are looking better, but
the people are yet to see that reflect in their lives. Everyone is worried that
things might only get worse.
Reverend Adetunji
Adeonigbagbe, the founder of Celica Church of Christ, believes that things can
be better. He admits the situation looks gloomy but is positive we will find
light at the end of the tunnel if we hold firmly to the word of God. For him,
there are no short cuts in life. He is not just a simple man by nature, but he
clearly knows no other but that of God. He advises that looking desperately for
power and money is no guarantee that it would last when we get it because it
does not have God’s blessings. In this interview with the Publisher of Prime Citizens,
WALE LAWAL (08037209290), Reverend Adetunji Adeonigbagbe offers Nigerians his
piece of advice on how to navigate through the challenges that may come with
2026.
Sir, having firmly
expressed your displeasure at the situation of things in the country, what kind
of spiritual advice would you give to Nigerians at this very difficult time?
My advice to Nigerians is that they should focus on God. If you look at the book of John 14 verse 15, God spoke to us there and we must all heed his words. But are we even listening to him? Are we following his words? If we are, then he has promised us the rewards of our adherence. In Deuteronomy 28 verses 1-4, he says it will be good for us if we listen patiently to the words of God. But are we listening patiently to him? And it went further to say that if we do, then we shall benefit immensely for our adherence. But in Deuteronomy 28 starting from verse 14, God was very firm with us, he said if we fail to heed his words and do as he has instructed us to do, there shall be consequences. So, for those curses not to come upon us we have to obey God.
At this point, I would like to speak to Nigerians, especially our youths, why are we desperately looking for money by all means when God has blessed us? In Genesis chapter 1 verse 26 -28, when we were created, he had already blessed us. He proceeded to give us dominion over the earth. So, why then are we allowing the things he asked us to command to now be the ones commanding us? Money and power are now commanding us when we should be the ones commanding them. Let those in positions of power know today that those offices they currently occupy will always exist long after they are gone, it is the occupier of the office that will cease to occupy it one day. Let any Governor know that one day, they will become ex governors. Let the President know that one day, he will become ex president and another person will occupy that space. And even if he desires to remain there for life, when death comes knocking, he will die and another person will take over the office.
I am a Pastor and founder but I am well aware of the reality that, someday, I am going exit the office of the founder. I will have to vacate the office for another person, a much younger person who will grow up and take the church to greater heights. In Nigeria today, we have a lot of ex presidents who once ruled this country and are still alive, yet somebody else is in that office today and he is ruling over the land. So, let everyone understand that you can be alive and yet you no longer occupy your position of power. We muet realise that every one of us has a boss, a superior, only the Lord Almighty has no boss. Let me spell it out for us. Whether you’re a president, a governor, an Oba, a pastor, a General Overseer, a founder, a billionaire, a pauper, every one of us has a boss, and that boss is sleep. We all fall asleep. And in that moment that we are asleep, we forget who or what we are. When you are asleep, you forget you’re a president or founder or governor. We become nothing. We become nobody in our sleep.
Even in practical terms, the President still has his own ‘Ogas’, although in most cases presidents always find a way to maneuver their way around them. The Senate and the House of Reps are the president’s Ogas, they can impeach him. Look at President Trump, he woke up one morning and said he was going to bomb Nigeria. The implication of this is that Nigeria too has its own Oga. Only God Almighty has no boss and that is the reason why we should all fear God and hold him in high esteem. This year 2026, we must all come closer to God. We must seek only his face and trust him to take charge of all our challenges. We must stop running from pillar to post, let us continue to trust in God and he will not disappoint us. With prayers, and with us resolving to lift up one another, Nigeria shall be great again.
