Sometime ago, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, was at the University Lagos to speak to the youths. He spoke basically about the kinds of mistakes the youths need to avoid making while trying to find themselves the right partners. It was a well attended church programme that had the Vice Chancellor of the Institution in attendance. The following is an abridged version of the lecture.
It is important for every youth to discover his or her purpose in life. If you do not discover your purpose early in life, it will be difficult to reach your divine destination. Failure to identify your purpose might lead to taking wrong decisions. Identification of purpose is key before taking critical life decisions such as marriage. But many youths do not realize this, they go on to take critical decisions that turn out to be fatal and affect them in future because they simply failed to identify their very purpose in life.
Many youths also do not realize that it is important to seek the face of God before they embark on major goals that will define their future. It is important that they take their plans to God and work by God’s guidance. If God is not in on the plan it may fall flat on their face.
Same applies to taking decisions about marriage. One of the reasons why many young marriages are failing these days is because many young people take decisions regarding marriage outside God’s influence. There is this failure to understand that marriage is ultimately about destiny and as such, it’s a decision you can’t take outside God. Marriage is done by revelation, not by selection or election.
One of the biggest mistakes anyone can make is to end up marrying the wrong partner. It is extremely important for anyone, not just the youth, to seek divine intervention before starting out a relationship. Once you get the wrong from the very start and the foundation of your marriage, it will take only a miracle for such marriage to succeed. Like they say, it is better to have a crashed relationship than a crashed marriage.
As a youth, one of the fastest ways to heading to destruction is by associating with the wrong set of friends. Most times, young people attach themselves to ungodly persons who cannot make good role models. They look for the wrong qualities in people and end up following personalities with negative traits. In the end, there is no way anything good can come out of such relationship.
When choosing a partner, the first sign to look out for in that person is the fear and love for God. If you would be partner does not love God, neither does he fear God, then, it is important you think twice about making commitments with such a partner because such relationship or marriage is destined to hit nowhere but the rocks.
For the young females, the biggest mistake you can ever make is to think you can keep a man through sex. A lot of ladies believe one of the most effective ways to keep a man and make him happy in the relationship is by giving him sex all of the time, when you should actually be abstaining from sex until you get married. The truth of the matter is that sex cannot keep a man tied down to a woman. If the relationship was built on sex, you can be sure that after a while, the affection from the man will begin to wane. He will start to look elsewhere for a fresh partner. If the relationship was not built on genuine love and love for God, it can never go right.
In the same vein, it is a big mistake to ever think you can tie a man down by getting pregnant for him when you both did not agree to start raising children. This can only lead to disaster in the end. Such a marriage can never be successful. You cannot tie a man down with a pregnancy he did not plan for and expect him to stay loyal and committed to that union.
For ladies, it is wrong to receive gifts from somebody you don’t know too well. It is not good for the girl child raised up in the way of the Lord to receive gifts from someone she barely knows. You do not know the kind of person the giver is, you do not know his intentions, and you gladly accept his gifts once he gives them to you, then you are only inviting trouble into your life. Sometimes, ladies let the lure of worldly things becloud their sense of judgement.
It is also a huge potential catastrophe waiting to happen if you follow someone you do not know too well to a place you don’t know. You have more or less opened yourself up for any form of danger. It’s like deliberately putting yourself in harm’s way. Anything terrible can happen and the incident might go on to affect the lady for the rest of her days.
Many youths do not take their spiritual lives seriously. They just wake up every day and walk through life just like that without building a special relationship with God by taking their spiritual lives seriously. Developing your spiritual life has its many benefits. You are likely to make many mistakes in life if your spiritual life is non-existent.
